How to choose the right Karman cannula size
The size of the cannula is chosen by the clinician based on the age of the pregnancy, the size of the uterus and the degree of cervical dilation. As a general guide in MVA practice the cannula diameter in millimeters is close to the gestational age in weeks, to a maximum of 12 mm.

Things to keep in mind when choosing and using a cannula:
- The cannula must be compatible with the syringe used. All GSTC karman cannula’s sizes are compatible with standard MVA syringes.
- Hubs are color coded so the healthcare professionals can quickly check the size.
- Cannulas are for single use. Check the pack is intact before opening. Do not re-use or re-sterilise.
- Inspect the tip and body before use. Follow your safety protocols.
