Description

Endotracheal Tube Cuffed vs. Uncuffed

ParameterCuffed Endotracheal TubeUncuffed Endotracheal Tube
Airway SealHas an inflatable balloon (cuff) that seals the airway and helps prevent air leakage. No balloon is present; it relies on the natural anatomical fit to create an airway seal.
Best Suited ForCommonly used in adults and children, particularly where controlled ventilation or airway protection is required.Mainly used in neonates, infants, and small children where minimizing pressure on the tracheal wall may be preferred.
Size Range (ID)3.0 mm – 10.0 mm2.0 mm – 11.0 mm, generally in 0.5 mm increments
Key BenefitHVLP (High-Volume, Low-Pressure) cuff provides an effective airway seal while reducing pressure on the tracheal mucosa.Avoids cuff-related pressure on the tracheal wall and may reduce pressure-related airway injury in paediatric patients.

Applications of Endotracheal Tube

  • In the Operating rooms for general anaesthesia
  • In the Intensive care unit (ICU) for long-term care
  • In Emergency care for rapid intubation
  • Airway management in the ambulance
  • For Removal of  foreign objects from the airway
  • To help in the Aspiration of the airway protection in unconscious patients
  • For Support ventilation in critical care and surgical procedures.

Faqs

An endotracheal tube (ET tube) is a flexible tube inserted through the mouth or nose into the trachea (windpipe) to keep the airway open and support breathing during surgery, critical care, or emergency situations.
A cuffed ET tube has a small balloon that seals the airway and prevents air leakage, typically used for adults and larger children. An uncuffed ET tube has no balloon and relies on the natural anatomical seal — it's commonly used for neonates and small children to reduce the risk of tracheal injury.
Uncuffed tubes reduce the risk of pressure damage and airway injury in pediatric patients, since a child's airway naturally narrows enough to create a seal without a cuff.
Cuffed ET tubes are used where a secure, controlled airway seal is needed — operating rooms under general anesthesia, ICU ventilation, and emergency intubation in adults and larger children.

Endotracheal tubes (ET tubes) are flexible, made up of medical-grade PVC tubes that are inserted through the mouth / nose into the trachea to keep the airway open and support breathing during surgery, or any critical care situations. Our Endotracheal tubes are made from clear, non-toxic, kink resistant material for smooth insertion and continuous monitoring. These are available in two variants Cuffed and Uncuffed, they meet the full requirement as per clinical needs, covers range from neonatal to adult airway management. All our Endotracheal tubes are  ISO 13485 certified and CE marked for export to markets including the EU, Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.
